Climate Action Plan
The Sustainability and climate change strategy - GOV.UK of 2023 stated that "by 2025, all education settings will have nominated a sustainability lead and put in place a climate action plan". Here is a video from the Department of Education talking about their strategy:
At Reinwood Infant School we believe that the challenge of climate change is great but that we, as educators and parents together, have the opportunity to give our children the knowledge, skills and hope necessary to meet this challenge head-on.
In 2025 we formed a working group of school staff, parents, climate ambassadors and community members who have collaborated to create our Climate Action Plan (CAP). We meet termly to evaluate progress and set new targets.

As recommended in the DfE guidance our Climate Action Plan covers 4 areas:
-
Adaptation and resilience - taking actions to prepare our school for the future risks of climate change such as flooding and overheating
-
Biodiversity – making our site greener, capturing carbon and supporting wildlife
-
Climate education and green careers – developing children’s understanding of climate change and sustainability as well as their ‘green skills’ - the knowledge, abilities, values and attitudes needed to live in, develop and support a society which reduces the impact of human activity on the environment
-
Decarbonisation - calculating and taking actions to reduce carbon emissions, such as becoming more energy efficient with a view to achieving net zero across school operations
